Now and again something comes out of the blue that is so out of sync with current trends. Something that is traditional and yet strangely emotive and original, and it can be found in the unlikely setting of Southampton, famous for the wonderful pop of the Delays and the not so wonderful Craig David!

The brainchild and vision of one Peter J Croissant, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has put a fine collection of epic soundscapes together on new release ‘Blue Born Earth Boy’ , this is not the usual throwaway radio fodder that has it’s place for 15 minutes. It requires time and then more time to digest, until you can hear the songs in your head, a patient attitude is required of the discerning listener, but the rewards are worthwhile. |

The new album, released on One Little Indian records, displays a vocal range that would appeal to fans of Coldplay, Radiohead and Jeff Buckley, but that is where the similarity ends.
The musicianship heralds back to a time when these things were considered more important than style-gurus hijacking the purity and innocence of the music.
If anything it has more in common with the much dreaded prog. movement of the 70s, when music was trying to extend boundaries. In hindsight it was lambasted as being over ambitious, but is it wrong to want to deviate from the norm? Maybe now we should admire and not deride such ambition.

An anagram of lead singer Peter J Croissant’s name, the Sine Star Project are ably backed with strong musicianship from bassist Ben Rowley, drummer Alec Lowe and guitarist Mike Davies who also plays a mean steel guitar.

‘Blue Born Earth Boy’ is a great way to see in 2006, but to really appreciate the album, catch the band on tour and hear great songs such as ‘Open your eyes’, ‘Strange girl’, ‘Wolf river’ and the epic ‘Green man’ take on a whole new meaning.
Flomotions welcome the Sine Star Project, you should too.
