Well it’s either a case of the Emperor’s new clothes or the public’s appetite for another 80’s revival act is still going strong.
The sudden rise in popularity of Birmingham based quartet Editors in the last six months is staggering and almost beyond belief, as they smugly stroll on stage to milk the rapturous applause of an audience quite content to pay homage.
But credit where credit is due, to fill the London Astoria on the back of debut album ‘ The Back Room’ and single ‘Munich’, one has to admire the speed in which it has been achieved and maybe in vocalist Tom Smith, they may have a genuine front man who can take them further along the path to greatness.
Already nominated by the N.M.E as one of the top live acts in the country, their headlining show, at the conveniently N.M.E sponsored evening, was an ample opportunity to seize the bull by the horns and to an extent they succeeded.

Highlights of the set and where the whole band really excelled were on ‘Bullets’ and the powerful ‘Blood’.
The band really made the most of their only Lp to date.

It’s early days to attach greatness to Editors and the next album should reveal if the hype is truly justified.
