This is San Diego quartet Louis XIV’s third European tour since July 2005 and they’ve gone from strength to strength selling out bigger and bigger venues.

It started with a lot of hype which looks like it might have been justified after all, as I watch them tonight on stage, provoking screams of adulation from a mainly female audience.
French royalty fan, front man, song writer and producer Jason Hill, looks rather dandy in his white shirt, swigging from a bottle of red wine [French I hope] between numbers.

Having witnessed Louis XIV live, from their very first visit to the UK, I can see how their sound has progressed. |

Tonight the set, which includes punky ‘God Killed The Queen’, T-Rex inspired ‘A Letter To Dominique’, ‘Ball Of Twine’ among many others, and arguably sexist but nice first single 'Finding Out True Love Is Blind' from debut album ‘Best Little Secrets Are Kept’, is much rawer, rougher around the edges, less polished or as Jason told me, ‘looser’ than previously.
Unfortunately the vocals are not as clear as they should be.

Tonight is a perfect opportunity for the guys to introduce a couple of new tracks, proving that the non-stop touring of the last few months has not prevented them from working on a follow up album.

Aside from a single declaration of “ I feel like fucking tonight “ from Jason, answered by more ear piercing screeching,
Louis XIV are a rather subdued live act, concentrating on musicianship rather than outrageous stage antics, unmatching their self-proclaimed predatory sexual interests and filthy minded groupies-luring activities.

However the four Californians seem to make up for it backstage, judging by the flock of groupies surrounding them at the after show party.
And yes, months ago Jason Hill did give me his phone number but for purely professional reasons, you understand!

God save the King.
