Welcome to our October issue.

After spending time sorting out my record collection, I realised that most Rock/ Indie/ Alternative bands have what has become a classic formation of a singer, guitar, bass and drums only calling for 3 or 4 bandmates, and in some cases only 2 [e.g. The White Stripes], so I decided to take a closer look at groups who take the harder way out with a large number of bandmates and more sophisticated compositions to include strings, brass sections, piano...

When it comes to music we’ve become accustomed to less is more, but can more be better?

Delving into slightly different musical genres I spent time with hunky Matt Rimmer [from 7 piece Vibration White Finger], cuter than ever My Life Story’s Jake Shillingford [never less than 13 members on stage] and charmer Tom Baxter [usually surrounded by a large coterie of musicians],
all in the name of research, you understand!

Otherwise time was spent with recently landed on my desk and vying for stereo time, highly recommended freshly released or soon to be TV On The Radio’s Lp ‘Return To Cookie Mountain’, Sound Team’s first album ‘Movie Monster ’, Clinic’s fourth release ‘Visitations’ but Juliette & The Licks won by a stiletto heel with superb second Lp ‘Four On The floor’.

To prove our point we have Clinic and Tom Baxter cds for you to win!!! |
