LONDON SHOW UPGRADES FROM THE MEAN FIDDLER TO THE ASTORIA

After the sell out success of the My Life Story's reunion show at The Mean Fiddler in May, the band will be performing a Christmas Show at The Astoria on Friday 8th December 2006.
Jake Shillingford, founder of the cult orchestral alternative band, released the My Life Story Collection, ‘Sex & Violins’ on his own label Exilophone Records earlier this year, to celebrate 10 years since the release of their first hit single ‘12 Reasons Why I Love Her’.

A collection of b-sides and rarities will be released on 2nd January 2007, entitled ‘Megaphone Theology (B-sides & rarities 1994-2000)’.

A key player during the inception of Britpop, Jake’s 12- piece ensemble became a huge favourite on the UK live circuit with their uniquely flamboyant shows and loyal fan base.

In 1993 MLS were spotted by Giles Martin, the son of Beatles legend George, who offered them free time at his father’s studio.
The debut single ‘Girl A, Girl B, Boy C’ was born. A tale of a bizarre love triangle with a big band soundtrack. All foxy horns and horny foxes, it was released by indie label Mother Tongue and possessed a sassy swing which sounded gloriously out of place in the year of Grunge.
NME and Melody Maker made it their ‘Single of the week’.

Their debut album ‘Mornington Crescent’ was released to critical acclaim on the same label and MLS toured extensively in the UK and France, headlining over Oasis and supporting both Blur and Pulp.
In 1996, MLS signed to Parlophone and released their second album ‘The Golden Mile’.
All five singles from the album became a top forty hit including ‘12 Reasons Why I Love Her’, ‘Sparkle’ and ‘Strumpet’

The My Life Story orchestra were in high demand during the Britpop era, with notable appearances on the Morrisey track ‘Interlude’ and collaborations with Marc Almond and PJ Proby on the 1996 album ‘Legend’.

1999 saw the release of ‘If You Can’t Live Without Me Why Aren’t You Dead Yet’, the UK’s first internet single.
After the 2000 album ‘Joined Up Talking’, Jake felt he’d taken his pop plus orchestra formula to its natural end and the band split up.
‘Joined Up Talking’ spawned the bands sixth top forty hit ‘It’s A girl Thing’.

The full line up is Jake Shillingford (vocals/ acoustic guitar), The Crow (bass), Simon Wray (drums), Danny Turner (keys), Roger More (guitar), Becky Doe (violin), Lucy Wilkins (violin), Rob Spriggs (viola), Sarah Wilson (cello), Roxanna Shirley (strumpet), Knuckles (trumpet), Ben Spencer (sax) and Liz Palmer (flute).
