With a newly released single [‘Nag Nag Nag Nag’] and a second album in the offing, Art Brut are rightly back on a London stage.
Whilst I would highly recommend their first album, 2005 ‘Bang Bang Rock & Roll’, I have unfortunately never seen them live and therefore don’t really know what to expect, but feel excited as soon as I enter the venue... the positive energy among the audience is almost palpable and drink in hand, everyone is enthusiastically anticipating the beginning of the show.

As the band members take to their instruments, [that would be drummer Mike, Ian Catskilkin and Jasper Future on guitars, Freddy Feedback on bass], everybody is obviously awaiting the arrival of his Lordship Eddie Argos, vocalist, frontman, entertainer, unlikely rock god... |

There he is in his trademark shirt and tie attire, rather belonging to the ‘naughty schoolboy’ corner than Wall Street.
Without missing a beat, he launches into ‘Formed A Band’ with the help of a few hundred people, and you just know that you’re in for a good time.
The pace is quite frantic, the audience singing in unison with each previously released song, the atmosphere absolutely rocking...
‘Bang Bang Rock and Roll’, ‘Bad Weekend’, ‘Moving To LA’, ‘Rusted Guns Of Milan’, ‘Modern Art’, ‘Emily Kane’ and ‘These Animal Menswe@r’, bonus track from the vinyl version of the Lp...trust Eddie Argos to possess the right amount of aplomb to present us with so many urban tales of first time sex, lost love and teenage angst.

But tonight is not just about a trip down memory lane...it’s the Bournemouth quintet’s opportunity to introduce tracks from their forthcoming album... ‘Blame It On The Trains’, ‘St Pauli’, ‘Post Soothing Out’ and current single ‘Nag Nag Nag Nag’ are positively Art Brut and a natural progression from their first Lp.

Mr Argos is a brilliant frontman, provoking a rare level of adulation from the audience, pretty much Ricky Wilson [Kaiser Chiefs] style.
His rapport with the public is impressive and tonight he owns The Mean Fiddler as he has managed to effortlessly mesmerise every present man and woman while other band members seem extremely at ease, including new guitarist Jasper Future, with their leader’s antics.

They close with ‘18,000 Lira’, ‘My Little Brother’ and ‘Good Weekend’.
Now I don’t know about the weekend but this certainly was a good Wednesday night!
Thank you Art Brut!
