Here is my selection of the best albums of 2006...difficult to choose, but all these bands have confirmed their high standards with remarkable live performances in Paris (except The Vines: when are you coming back to burn stages in the city of lights?).
DIRTY PRETTY THINGS
‘Waterloo to Anywhere’ [Mercury Records]
Firstly, trying to rectify a huge mistake by the NME and the Inrocks: The Dirty Pretty Things' album is one of the best of the year. |
|
PRIMAL SCREAM
‘Riot City Blues’ [Columbia]
Thank Primal Scream for carrying on with their British interpretation of American rock/folk, as initiated by The Stones in the 70s.
Special mention for the 'Country Girl' video and the featuring of VV in 'Dolls (Sweet Rock And Roll)', making the wait for the next Kills album more bearable!!

THE RACONTEURS
‘Broken Boy Soldier’ [V2]
Aside from the single 'Steady, As She Goes', no Rock'n'Roll revolution, but a sound so pleasant that you'd think you are discovering a Beatles' LP, from the vintage years. |
The Vines
‘Vision Valley’ [Heavenly Recording]
The Vines have kept their genius creativity and a real equilibrium between haunting melodies and traumatic violence. |
Arctic Monkeys
‘Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not’ [Domino Recording]
Ok, it's unanimous. It's an excellent debut album from a band full of promises. Looking forward to the follow up from the barely out of puberty Sheffield quartet. |
