Sam Semple is an old-school songwriter who makes alternative folk music. He is what you get if you were to cross David Bowie with Kris Kristofferson. Maybe throw in a bit of Burt Bucharach, Neil Young, Harry Nilsson, Elvis Costello...

“One of the most exciting discoveries of the year is Sam Semple, whose song writing is staggeringly good.
Regular readers of this review will know how highly Sam is rated around these parts. He is mapping out uncharted territory with the topics he writes about and his uniquely original approach to words and music makes for a compelling talent.
The man is a true one-off”, Annabel’s Diaries. The Kashmir Klub.

Since coming to London, 10 years ago, and before turning to song writing, Sam has always earned his crust as a writer.
His last job was working for the legendary author Douglas Adams who created a web site, h2g2 based on his famous book ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy’.
Having studied English at Southampton University, literature as much as music is the inspiration behind Sam’s songs.

A big influence over the writing also comes from Sam’s dad, Shel Macrae, a singer, notably for many years with 60s and 70s harmony pop band The Fortunes.
Many of Shel’s material was by hit writers Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway.

Sam has earned a great reputation as a top-drawer songwriter.
He has recently established a very successful residency in Stoke Newington, North London, in The Lion Pub, where he promotes the ‘Art Of Song Craft’, singing his own songs and showcasing other quality writers.

Mr Semple’s songs get regular radio air play and recently one track was used in independent US feature film Deja Vu.
Sam completed his first full UK tour at the end of last year supporting Karine Polwart and has established a thriving song writing parternship with fellow songsmith Tom Baxter.

Sam, who was born in East Kilbride, Scotland, spent much of his life in Halesowen in the West Midlands, and after a spell living in Tokyo now lives in Stoke Newington, London.
